Cookies and Dreams

The world is a vast and wondrous place, and Adalyn is just now experiencing it. Adalyn will never forget her first cookie...her first sucker...her first adventure...her dreams. Adalyn has a great life and lots to show for it, but all of her experiences are scripted by someone else. Can Adalyn experience all that life has to offer from the driver's seat? Can she live out her dreams?

"I can haz dreams?"

After cataloging all of her hopes and desires, Adalyn has a hard time deciding which dream to pursue first.

Adalyn begins living her dreams one by one...

Adalyn had a dream that she'd won day fill Mommy's shoes...and so she did.

Adalyn had a dream about having a no muss, no fuss lifestyle...so she got a haircut.

Adalyn had a dream about delicious, exotic food...so we had some Pad Thai with tofu (yes, she's eating a lemon...she loves lemons).

Adalyn had a dream about...who knows, but she seems happy, so we're just going with it.

Adalyn had a dream about a big girl bed...so we got her some new, big girl circus sheets to match her zoo shirt.

Adalyn had a dream with visions of sugar plums dancing around her head...so she had a sucker.

Adalyn had a dream about a giraffe...so she turned her tongue into a giraffe tongue.

After realizing that she hasn't been reaching her full potential, Adalyn expands her dreams to include the arts.

Daddy sets up our protege with paints, paintbrushes, and a canvas.

Adalyn is glowing with excitement at the thought of painting.

Adalyn paints some grass over here...

...and a happy bush over there.

It's a bird...it's a plane...it's a flower...

Adalyn sings her ABCs...minus a letter here and there.

Somebody's a jolly, happy soul, and I don't think it's just Frosty.

"I'm right here!" Even playing hide and seek, Adalyn is always the performer.

Adalyn saved her biggest dream for last...homemade cookies! So Mommy shuffled into the kitchen to see what she could prepare that would satisfy a toddler appetite. Would mocha whoopie pies be enough?

Daddy's only grinning because he doesn't know yet that Adalyn's licked the beater clean.

Can Mommy make a cookie so big even a toddler can't shove it in their mouth?

"Huh? I've got what where?"

Adalyn loved the mocha whoopie pies so much that she devoured an entire cookie...it might have set a new record. Even though the cookie embodied all that she had hoped and dreamed, Adalyn felt like she was missing something...some key ingredient. Maybe it was time to get serious about playtime. It was time...to bake cookies herself using her own kitchen tools and chew bubble gum...and she was all out of gum.

Mommy's not used to measuring out quantities in such tiny, toddler sizes.

A little bit of salt...

Some honey...

A little whirl around the bowl...

A splash of vanilla...

Another whirl around the bowl...

Oh yes, some dry ingredients...

And voila! Delicious cookie dough. Om nom nom!

A happy customer

Adalyn helps shape the dough for a rest in the fridge.

Shhh...we mixed in some of Adalyn's cookie cutters with Mommy's...let's see if Mommy can tell the difference.

Adalyn had to pass on cutting cookies because Lion looked hungry again.

Uh oh...looks like several someones heard there were cookies being made.

They almost look too good to put in the oven.

Adalyn's always prepared to feed a crowd.

TADA! Animal cookies!

Adalyn gets the first cookie...does she like it?

Adalyn was too busy eating her cookie to give her score as the cookie judge.

Om nom nom nom nom!

Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge

Most people associate Christmastime with snow...but here in New Mexico, Christmastime is the perfect time to see birds migrating south for the winter. And it just so happens that there are a few wildlife refuges south of Albuquerque that let you witness this spectacular sight.

So, Adalyn, Mommy, and Daddy headed to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge for a fun day trip after cleaning up after the Christmas festivities. We saw LOTS of birds, walked around, and admired the beautiful New Mexico landscape.

Adalyn continues her journey feeling like she's forgetting someone...

Rare sighting of cattails in New Mexico.

Adalyn wonders if we have enough food to hike to that mountain.

Adalyn may have the tiniest feet, but she left the most footprints on the trail.

The hiking journey is over! Adalyn and Mommy are back on the bridge.

Another rare sight in New Mexico...water!

Now it's time to see some birds!

Adalyn is excited to finally see some BIRDS!!

Cue migratory birds in 3...2...1...

If you squint hard enough, you can see lots of birds flying in to join the lots of birds on the ground (hmm...where did that ENHANCE button go).

Various geese and cranes settling in for the night.
